Disclaimer: The list of items on this calculator were generated through discussions with companies that perform multi-unit turnover services, and weighed in on by multi-unit housing managers who use turnover services. It is not a list of recommendations to undertake to remove secondhand and thirdhand smoke from a home, but a list that simply allows the calculation of services that managers may undertake to compare the cost of smoked-in and smoke-free units they service. There is no way to truly remove the remnants of tobacco use from a home, which seeps deep into the foundation of a home and lives there for years. This is why public health professionals recommend all multi-unit housing be smoke-free.
